MSU Safe Place "Goes for the Gold" with World-Record
Treat!
The staff at Michigan State University’s Central Bakery will
be making a homecoming Rice Krispie treat of world-record proportions
- all for a good cause.
In
1997, the MSU Bakery created a Guinness World Record Rice Krispie
treat of 2,260 pounds. This year, in an effort to top its own record,
the bakery hopes to make at least a 3,000-pound solid square of
the marshmallow treat using 1,716 pounds of marshmallows, 897 pounds
of Rice Krispies and 429 pounds of margarine.
The treat will be created at the MSU Bakery during homecoming week
and be featured in the homecoming parade on Friday, Oct. 18.
Students from MSU’ s chapter of the Institute of Packaging
Professionals are donating their time and skill to create the giant
container needed to hold the treat and Home Depot donated building
materials. Kellogg’s and SYSCO Corp. are donating the food
ingredients and the MSU Bakery is donating staff hours to create
the dessert.
For
a $2 donation to benefit MSU Safe Place, the nation’ s only
on-campus domestic violence shelter and program, guests can get
a part of the record treat on Oct. 19 before, during and after the
game on the north side of the stadium or from the golf carts cruising
the tailgate parties.
MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE SPONSORS
OF HOMECOMING 2002.
